GRAND CONNECTION History and Purpose
Whitesburg Christian Academy’s Grand Connection was conceived and organized in February of 2007. WCA Administrators and four grandparents of the Academy, Mr. & Mrs. Al Hughes and Mr. & Mrs. Bill Clark, came together to design its’ mission and how best to bring together grandparents who are interested in the Academy .
A brunch was suggested as a way to bring our grandparents together and to get to know each other. The brunch would provide a fellowship, a time of learning, and a call to be a part of the spiritual and classroom needs of the school.
A letter was sent to the WCA Grandparents in the Tennessee Valley area in March 2007 introducing them to the Grand Connection with an invitation to our first planned brunch.
The May 8. 2007 brunch was the day that officially launched the Grand Connection. It was well attended. The Grand Connection plans two brunches each year: one in the fall and one in the spring. The brunch programs are planned to include student and teacher participation; to introduce our grandparents to the staff members; to share the accomplishments and needs of the school, and to assist teachers and staff as needed. Recently, grandparents helped paint and clean classrooms in preparation of the new school year. During the school year some grandparents volunteered to help correct papers, listen to children read, share war stories and their travel experiences as it fit into the class curriculum.
At the brunches, Grandparents are able to learn of future developments of the Academy. Grandparents are encouraged to pray faithfully for the school that God will truly bless those parents who choose to send their children to a school where God is the center of every subject taught. Prayers are lifted up for those teachers who are dedicating themselves to teach our next generation.
